Getting Your Drivers Licence

Please be advised that if you do not have your Class 5 licence and/or are a first time driver, you will need to pass a drivers licence test or learners test as well as a road test prior to applying for your driver’s licence.

Applying for an Alberta Drivers Licence

When visiting one of our Registry offices to obtain an Alberta licence, please bring with you the following:

  • Your physical and mailing address
  • Medical, if:
  • you are over 75 years old,
  • you are applying for a Class 1, 2 or 4 licence
  • you have a medical condition that may impede with your capability to operate a motor vehicle
  • A supporting piece of ID, see Acceptable I.D.
  • If moving from outside Alberta, you will need to provide:
  • your licence from your previous province or country (if you do not have your last driver’s licence then you will require a clearance letter from your previous province/country)
  • Proof that you are lawfully entitled to be in, or to remain in Canada
  • Proof of Alberta residency

There may be other requirements depending on where your current licence is from, or if it is a processional class of licence.  Our experienced registry staff will be happy to help you!!

Lost my Drivers Licence!

Please come by one of our Registry offices to apply for a replacement driver’s licence, you will be required to prove your identity.  See the Acceptable I.D. for authorized identification that you will be required to show to prove who you are.
