Vehicle Registrations

What is the cost to renew your registration?

The cost to renew your registration varies depending on vehicle use and length of registration.

What is required to register my new vehicle?

To register a new vehicle, you are required to visit us in office with valid photo identification, your original signed bill of sale (must have ink signatures), and valid proof of insurance. If your vehicle is brand new, you will also require an original NVIS (New Vehicle Information Statement) that is provided to you by the dealership. Please ensure all buyers or desired registrants are in office to complete the service. Any individuals unable to attend the Registry Office can complete the Letter of Authorization (REG0169) form found under our Printable Forms section. Click here for instructions on how to fill out the Letter of Authorization form.  For more information about renewing your registration please visit Vehicle Registrations.

My bill of sale has an alteration to it, is it still acceptable?

All corrections or alterations to a bill of sale are required to be initialed by both the buyer and seller. Please ensure when filling out your bill of sale that any changes you make are initialed by both parties prior to visiting a Registry Office.

What do I need to renew my registration?

When renewing your own registration, please bring in your valid insurance and your drivers licence. For more information about renewing your registration please visit Vehicle Registrations.

Can I renew my registration without (or for) my partner?

When renewing registration on behalf of someone else, please bring in their old registration and valid insurance to renew. If their registration has been expired for longer than 1 year or you are making any changes to the registration, have that person complete the Letter of Authorization form found in our Printable Forms section. Click here for instructions on how to fill out the Letter of Authorization form.  For more information about renewing your registration please visit Vehicle Registrations.

Where can I get an Out of Province or Salvage inspection done?

For a complete listing of registered mechanics in your area, please visit Alberta Transportation.

Why haven’t I received my registration reminder in the mail?

The Government is no longer mailing out registration courtesy reminders. Next time you are in our office you can ask to be set up with an email or text message reminder. From then you will begin to receive annual registration reminders and if you would like you can also input the information for your drivers licence to be reminded of that expiry date as well.
