A note on Automatic Renewals

If you sign up for automatic renewals after the first day of your expiry month your renewals will not begin until next year and your card will not be charged. For the current year’s registration you can choose the digital download, mail-out, or pick-up option.

There are several options for renewing your vehicle registration. Any changes to the registration (e.g. plate, colour, or weight) must be completed in person.

In person renewal

To renew your own registration in person you will need to provide:

• Proof of Alberta insurance (Pink card that is valid on the date you come in)
• Acceptable ID or your old registration certificate

To renew registration on behalf of someone else you will need to provide:

• Proof of Alberta insurance (Pink card that is valid on the date you come in)
• A copy/photo of their old registration certificate or an Authorization for Vehicle Services Form.

Online Renewals

If you don’t need to make any changes to your registration, you can quickly renew online.

Digital Downloads

You can renew your registration through your Alberta.ca account. You will get access to a digital copy of your registration right away but will not receive a printed copy.

Pick-up Express Renewals

Fill out your information through our express renewal service, pay online, and your registration will be ready for pick-up at the Drayden registries branch of your choosing*. Once you have received your confirmation e-mail for pick-up, go to the insurance reception desk and ask for your registration without waiting in line!

*If your registration is not picked up in 10 business days it will be mailed out to the address on your motor vehicles file.

Mail-out Express Renewals*

*As Canada Post is facing a potential legal work disruption starting Friday Nov. 15 2024, mail-out registration documents will be temporarily unavailable. To renew online, please select the pick-up or digital download option above.

Automatic Renewals

Fill out the quick and easy online sign-up and we will renew your Alberta vehicle registration each year at the beginning of your expiry month. Note: If the first day of your expiry has already passed, your Automatic renewals will not start until next year and your card will not be charged. For the current year’s registration, you can select digital download, pick-up, or mail-out option from the section above.

Once you receive your confirmation e-mail for pick-up, go to the insurance reception desk and ask for your registration without waiting in line!
