New Integrated Driver’s License and ID Cards
Effective July 2, 2026, Alberta will introduce a new integrated driver’s license and identification card. As part of this update, the new card will include a Canadian Citizenship marker as well as your Personal Health Number (PHN), bringing additional key identification details together as a single, streamlined card.
Required Documents for Services
- Proof of Canadian Citizenship
- Examples: Canadian Passport, Canadian Birth Certificate, Permanent Resident Card
- Alberta Health Care Card
- Accepted formats: Physical card or mobile card via the Alberta.ca Wallet
- Please note: Photos or copies will not be accepted
- Current Driver’s License or ID Card
- Driver’s Medical (if applicable)
Important Reminder About PHN Expiry
Your Personal Health Number (PHN) will now expire at the end of the same month as your driver’s license or ID card and must be revalidated at the time of renewal.
Province Wide Service Interruption
Due to a province-wide system transition, Driver’s License/ID Card services will be unavailable across Alberta from Sunday, June 28 at 6:30 pm until Thursday, July 2 at 8:00 am.
Affected services include, but are not limited to:
- Driver’s License/ID Card First-Time applications
- Driver’s License/ID Card Renewals
- Duplicate Licenses/ID Card
- License Reclassing Services
- Driver’s License/ID Card Exchange Services
In addition, Motor Vehicle services will be unavailable province-wide from Tuesday, June 30 at 3:00 pm until Thursday, July 2 at 8:00 am.
Affected services include, but are not limited to:
- Vehicle registrations
- Driver’s abstracts
- Fine payments
Customers requiring any of these services are encouraged to visit their registry agent of choice before the service interruptions begin to ensure licenses, registrations and other documents can be processed and revalidated prior to their expiry dates,
